2014 AMALAYA RED. Calchaqui Valley, Salta, Argentina

Bin:  605

Alcohol percentage:  14%

Area:

The Calchaquí Valley is in the Salta region in the north, the highest wine region in the world. The altitude ensures cool nights which are vital for keeping the wines fresh. Drip irrigation is necessary as it only rains 15cm a year

Grape variety:

75% Malbec, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Tannat, 5% Syrah

Producer:

Amalaya is part of Hess Family Estates, owned by Swiss financier Donald Hess, which also incudes Colome in Argentina, Glen Carlou in South Africa, The Hess Collection in California and Peter Lehmann in Australia. The word Amalaya means ‘Hope for a Miracle’ in the local dialect

Old Bridge rating:

Quite a contrast to the Punto Final. The cooler nights give a much fresher, more lively style. Take your pick…..
