2016 Now finished: BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO, Pinino. Tuscany

Bin:  670

Alcohol percentage:  14.0%

Area:

Montalcino is further south than Chianti, in southern Tuscany, and the extra heat and open countryside make for a much bigger, broader style of Sangiovese-based wine.

Grape variety:

100% Sangiovese matured for a year in large, old Slavonian oak casks.

Producer:

From their own website: “The original estate was built in Montalcino in 1874 by the notary Tito Costanti. Nearly 100 years later, in 1950, Pinino was then inscribed to the Brunello Winemakers Register as one of the first wine estates in Montalcino. In December 2003, the Vineyard was acquired by its current owners, the befriended couples Andrea and Hannes Gamon and Silvia and Max Hernandez.

… the vineyards are located in the north of Montalcino, embedded like a natural amphitheatre into the beautiful and famous hillside of Montosoli…. in north-west and north-eastern facing vineyards, situated at an altitude of 310 to 320 metres”.

Old Bridge rating:

A full-bodied, relatively generous and soft style of Sangiovese.
