2014 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Frog’s Leap. Napa Valley (Magnum)

Bin:  880

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Grape variety:

92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc

Frog’s Leap is run by the brilliant and idiosyncratic John Williams. Here is his introduction to this wine:
“Living and working among the vineyards of Rutherford for the last four decades kindled a dream…
an estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon that embodies the unique characteristics of this storied appellation.
The Rutherford Appellation encompasses just over six square miles in the center of the Napa Valley, between the east-facing Vaca Mountain Range and the Mayacamas Range on the west.
As one of the early pioneers of organic grape growing, I can never overstate the importance of healthy soils. The introduction of dry farming by Frank Leeds and his uncle, Roy Chavez, helped us align our farming with the natural interest of the vines. Fruit from the Chavez & Leeds vineyard is included in our estate-grown wine.
Most of the great and historic wines of the world are made from non-irrigated vines. Dry farming leads to more intensely flavored grapes —sweet, dense, and small.”

Old Bridge rating:

Genuinely in Bordeaux-style; serious, dry, elegant
