2022 CARMENÈRE RESERVA. Echeverria, Curico, Chile.
Bin: 536
Alcohol percentage: 13.5%
Vegan
Established in 1930, Echeverria remains a family run estate which has achieved Sustainable Winery status. Made by Roberto Echeverria Jr. this 100% Carmenère comes from ungrafted vines (ie on their own root system) grown on clay, loam, and gravel soils in the Entre Cordilleras region of the Curicó Valley – a warm, central region which is fast building a big reputation.
100% Carmenère.
Now Chile’s signature varietal, Carmenère is an old Bordeaux vine (now interestingly being re-planted there) and has plenty of black fruit and berry flavours, with notes of bell pepper and spice.
The 2022 growing season followed a cool, dry winter and spring, with a warm but not overly hot summer – in effect a fine and balanced season overall. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and spent 5 months in seasoned (not new) Frenck oak barrels.
