2020 CASSIOPEA, Rosato, Poggio al Tesoro. Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy

Bin:  360

Alcohol percentage:  12.5%

Poggio al Tessoro is a relatively new estate based in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, the area where most of the ‘Super Tuscan’ wines (based on Bordeaux grapes) have been produced. The 70 hectare property is owned by the Allegrini family, important producers of Valpolicella in the Veneto.
The temperate coastal climate seems to produce wines with more softnesss and openness than one finds elsewhere in Tuscany.

Grape variety:

70% Cabernet Franc , 30% Merlot; pressed gently before fermentation (as if a white wine).

Poggio al Tesoro is a 70 hectare property in Bolgheri acquired in 2002 by the Allegrini family. The first vineyard they bought, Le Sondraie, is next door to Ornellaia and was previously rented by them. It is 50 hectares in size and is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Vermentino.

Old Bridge rating:

Crisp but rounded. Classy dry rosé
