2009 CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY, Méo-Camuzet Frère et Soeurs, Burgundy

Bin:  800

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Chambolle-Musigny is the village on the Côte de Nuits known above all for under-stated elegance. In recent years prices have shot up, way above Nuits-St-Georges for instance.
The winery’s website tells us of the exact location of the 2 small plots that make up this wine:
“Just below the village of Chambolle, towards the east, Les Athets is planted in deep but well-drained soil; just above it, in the direction of Morey, Les Drazey is in a typical situation for the village, at the foot of the hill, in medium-deep soil.”

Grape variety:

Pinot Noir, all de-stemmed and then matured in oak for around 16 months, a modest percentage of new wood used.

Producer:

Jean Nicolas Méo runs one of Burgundy’s very best estates, based in Vosne-Romanée. Their style is modern, emphasizing ripeness, but without any excess. If this is rich for a Chambolle, it’s because of the vintage, not the winemaking.

Old Bridge rating:

Powerful for Chambolle, but just reaching a lovely stage of maturity.
