2007 Château CANTEMERLE, 5ème Cru. Haut Médoc, Bordeaux (Magnum)

Bin:  899

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Cantemerle has 87 hectares of classic Haut-Médoc vineyard, with silica and gravel soils, around the villages of Macau and Ludon. La Lagune is close by

Grape variety:

58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, aged for one year in barrel (half new oak)

Producer:

Since 1981 the château has been owned by SMABTP (Les Mutuelles d’Assurance du Bâtiment et des Travaux Public), managed by Phillippe Dambrine and winemaker Pascal Berteau. Iinvestment is no longer a problem!

Old Bridge rating:

Catemerle is often a bargain, compared to its peers. This is light, like all 2007’s, but there’s more than enough fruit and some charming freshness and elegance

Food match:

Lighter clarets don’t want to be overwhelmed by rich sauces; go for simply cooked red meat or a hard but mild cheese like Comte or Coolea
