2000 Château LABÉGORCE, Margaux

Bin:  800

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Labégorce is in the north of the commune of Margaux, the region know for producing the most delicate and elegant of clarets

Grape variety:

48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot; matured in oak, 30% of which is new, for fifteen months

Producer:

Originating in the 14th century, Labégorce was sold off during the French Revolution and split between three estates – Labégorce, Labégorce-Zédé, and the weirdly named L’Abbé Gorsse de Gorsse (now long defunct). In 1989 it was bought by Hubert Perrodo, a wealthy industrialist, who aimed to reunite all three, buying them all just before he was killed in a skiing accident on holiday in late 2006. The future remains unclear….

Vintage:

Excellent year – ripe, rounded wines

Old Bridge rating:

Just reaching full maturity, this is gentle and elegant. Decant just before drinking

£37.50
