2015 Château LAROSE PERGANSON. Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux

Bin:  530

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Larose Perganson is in the commune of Saint-Laurent-Médoc, on the border of Pauillac and Saint-Julien, right next to the vineyards of the 1er Cru Classé, Château Latour. The key is the famously deep gravel soils.

Grape variety:

66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot; aged in French ‘barriques’, 40% new, for around 14 months.

There are records of the Perganson estate being sold in 1719. After years of neglect, the property was purchased in 1986 by the same company that owns Château Larose Trintaudon. They have nursed it back to health, and the current wines are now well thought of. A key part of nursing it back to health came in 1999 when they were certified in the Sustainable Development programme of Vignoble Responsible. In 2010, they were the first European vineyard to be rated ‘Exemplary’ in Sustainable Development.
There are 35 hectares of vineyard, an average age of 35 years; winemaker is Frank Bijon.

Old Bridge rating:

Medium-bodied, cedary, classic claret; will improve over 5-8 years
