2011 Château LESTRILLE-CAPMARTIN. Bordeaux Blanc

Bin:  270

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Lestrille is located in the small town of St. Germain du Puch (the northern point of Entre-deux-Mers, between Libourne and Bordeaux, about half an hour southwest of St. Emilion).

Grape variety:

65% Sauvignon Gris, 25% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Semillon; fermented in new oak and matured ‘on its lees’ to add extra texture

Producer:

The 95 hectare estate is owned and managed by Estelle Roumage and husband Jean-Louis. They have used the services of renowned consultant Michel Rolland, but the wines are not in the ‘overdone’ style that his reputation might indicate

Old Bridge rating:

Dominated, most unusually, by Sauvignon ‘Gris’, this is modern white Bordeaux at its best. The oak adds texture and richness but doesn’t dominate

Food match:

This has body and a zippy freshness – so can work with lots of ingredients and dishes. Pasta pesto, fishcakes with tartare sauce, tuna Nicoise – the list is a long one…
