2007 Château PETIT-VILLAGE. Pomerol, Bordeaux

Bin:  800

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

From the website of the UK agent: “The vineyard sits at the highest point of Pomerol, where soils are the most gravelly and thus drainage is optimised, which is an advantage in the maritime climate. The subsoil is known as ‘crasse de fer‘, an iron-rich clay that is said to confer such complexity to the greatest wines of Pomerol. Vines are between 15 and 20 years of age and grapes were all hand-picked.”

Grape variety:

78% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc matured in French oak, 60% new

Producer:

Now owned by AXA who also own illustrious properties like Pichon Baron and Suduiraut. They have taken the property from an under-performer to a leading light of the area in a very short time

Old Bridge rating:

Showed really well in our recent (October 2014) Bordeaux tasting – classic Pomerol style, with toasty oak and ripe, generous fruit
