2005 Château TALBOT, 4me Cru. St Julien, Bordeaux (Magnum)

Bin:  899

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

At over 100 hectares, Talbot is by far the biggest estate in St Julien, one of the key sub-regions in the Haut-Médoc, boasting a deep gravel soil, the key to the quality in the whole area

Grape variety:

Two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, a quarter Merlot and a seasoning of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot

Producer:

Talbot first appears in Bordeaux records in the 18th century and is assumed to be named after John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, who led the English when Aquitaine was won back by the French in the 15th century. The Cordier family and its descendants have owned the estate for the last 100 years.

Vintage:

Great year

Old Bridge rating:

Talbot often has a gamey earthiness, reminiscent of mature Rhône wines. This is still young – decant in advance
