2017 FIXIN, Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet. Burgundy (Half bottle)

Bin:  835

Alcohol percentage:  13.0%

Area:

Fixin is a lesser-known village on the Côte de Nuits (home of the finest top red Burgundy), just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. The style is normally robust and (for Pinot) quite powerful, but rom lesser producers it can be a bit weedy or rustic. Like most of the ‘junior’ areas in Burgundy, quality has improved hugely because of ambitious young producers (who often can’t afford land in the best Crus).

Producer:

Amélie Berthaut took over the family domaine, based in Fixin, in 2013. She now also runs the larger and more prestigious estate that previously belonged to her mother, in Vosne-Romanée. It sounds like a cliché, but her style is genuinely feminine, with delicacy and aromatics to the fore.

Old Bridge rating:

Just reaching perfect maturity.
