2018 FURMINT, Dobogó. Tokaji, Hungary

Bin:  270

Alcohol percentage:  14%

Tokaji in north east Hungary is of course renowned for its great, historically important sweet wines. In recent years producers have started to produce dry wines using both of their key grape varieties (Ferment and Harslevelu) – with very positive results.

Grape variety:

100% Furmint; fermented and matured in 3 year old Hungarian oak barrels (500 litres).

Dobogo has been a wine estate since the 19th century. It is now owned by Izabella Zwack and winemaker is Attila Domokos.

Old Bridge rating:

Lovely tension between steely minerality and underlying, subtle richness. Just a hint of the faintly exotic, herbal complexity of the great sweet wines – which will no doubt develop with time in bottle.

£22.75 per bottle in a mixed case of 6 bottles
