2008 GEWURZTRAMINER, Grand Cru Goldert, Zind Humbrecht. Alsace

Bin:  175

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Goldert is one of the 51 Grand Cru sites in Alsace, situated in the village of Gueberschwihr. Steep, limestone-rich, south-east facing slopes produce richly flavoured and aromatic wines

Grape variety:

100% Gewurztraminer, bottled young to retain freshness

Producer:

Olivier Humbrecht has been rated by Robert Parker as one of the five best winemakers in the world. Taking over the family estate in the late 1980s, he pushes every vineyard he owns to its maximum, producing massively concentrated and complex wines. Critics have pointed to excessive sweetness in wines that would normally be dry, but Olivier now labels all his bottles with a sweetness indicator. This one is medium-sweet

Old Bridge rating:

Hedonistic aromas; plenty of sweetness; huge intensity. A wine for strong cheese and a long conversation

Press review:

Stephen Tanser: “Full medium gold. Sexy aromas of flowers, golden raisin, truffle and almond. Fat, broad and sweet, with deep, very ripe floral and spice flavors dominating. Quite silky and opulent”
