This comes from Abruzzo (the far, eastern side of Italy, in the central section of the country, across the mountains from Rome). The specific wine region is the Colline Pescaresi, the hills behind the coastal town of Pescara.

Grape variety:

100% Montepulciano, given the briefest maceration on the skins before cool fermentation, as for a white wine.

As described by Gus Gluck the UK agent – “Incredible value Montepulciano from Chiara Ciavolich. These wines are made in honour of the winemaker Chiara’s great aunt, Giuliana – a remarkable woman who was sadly born into a time when women were stymied by societal convention. Giuliana eventually inherited the land, and bequeathed it to her niece on the provision she made accessible wines, removed from the pretension and gatekeeping of previous generations.”

Old Bridge rating:

Dry, lively, invigorating rosé – that characteristic Italian bitter-cherry edge making it brilliantly food-friendly.
