2020 GOATS DO ROAM WHITE. Coastal Region, South Africa

Bin:  175

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Grapes mainly from Fairview Farm, on the slopes of Paarl Mountain, with the Grenache Blanc from Darling, on the cool west coast.

Grape variety:

37% Viognier, 34% Roussanne, 19% Grenache Blanc, 10% Marsanne. Fermented in stainless steel.

Producer:

Goats do Roam is the brainchild of Charles Back of Fairview. Yes it’s a silly pun on a certain French appellation, but Charles does have a huge goat farm too, so there is method in the madness. The Goats wines are as cheerful, direct and charming as the concept and the labels.

Maturity potential:

Drink young.

Old Bridge rating:

A wine to drink, not to pontificate about. All 3 of these grape varieties can get heavy and ponderous in warm climates, but this is a fresh, lively white with just a hint of heady peach and apricot aromatics.
