GREMILLET, Brut Selection. Champagne

Bin:  60

Alcohol percentage:  12%

From vineyards about 40km south of Troyes in the Aube Valley – a slightly warmer area than the main Reims-Epernay region

Grape variety:

70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay

Gremillet are a family owned estate of around 45 hectares. Until 1979 they sold their grapes to others but since then have been making their own Champagne. Anne Gremillet is currently in charge

Maturity potential:

Will improve for up to a year, but then drink within 3 years maximum

Old Bridge rating:

From a family-owned estate in the Aube Valley. Aged for a relatively short period, this is a crisp, light, lively style. But it shows none of the rather bitter, sweet-and-sour flavours of many less expensive Champagnes

Food match:

Obviously a natural aperitif; but the Pinot Noir dominance of this Champagne gives it the backbone to match all sort of nibbles and salads or fish dishes

Press review:

Silver Medal, International Wines and Spirits Competition, 2011.
16.5/20 in ‘The World of Fine Wine’, Issue 32, 2011 – “The palate echoes the aromatics of the nose, dominated by minerals that give direction through an attractive blend of apples, pears, nuts and floral intrigue. Good wine” Alison Buchanan. “…Finely balanced mouthfeel confirms the nose…Quality here and a proper time on lees” Michael Edwards
