2019 LAYERS, Peter Lehmann. Adelaide, S. Australia

Bin:  175

Alcohol percentage:  11.5%

Area:

Adelaide is a relatively new appellation for a huge band of vineyards, including Barossa, Clare, McLaren Vale and many others. Basically, any vineyards within 30/40 miles of the city. For producers this does at least sound more interesting than the ‘South East Australia’ that was previously used by most inexpensive wines across several states.
This comes from several vineyards, but is based on Semillon from Barossa, which has always been the key white grape for Peter Lehmann.

Grape variety:

40% Semillon, 23% Moscato/Muscat, 20% Gewürztraminer, 17% Pinot Gris/Grigio; fermented cool and bottled early to retain maximum freshness.

Producer:

Peter Lehmann made his first vintage in 1979 and was a key figure in the revival of the Barossa’s reputation in the 1980’s. Peter himself died in 2013. He had floated the company on the stock market in 1992 and it has been owned by the Swiss company Hess Group since 2003.

Old Bridge rating:

Just off-dry, fruity, light and fresh – a very user-friendly style.
