2021 MALBEC Bodega Los Haroldos Trueno. Uco Valley, Mendoza
Bin: 551
Alcohol percentage: 14.5%
Vegan
The Uco Valley is a superior delimited area in Mendoza some 45 miles long and 22 miles wide following the course of the Tunuyan River. The combination of a cooler microclimate and free draining alluvial loam soils combine to producer outstanding fruit and aromatic qualities.
Bodega Los Haroldos is owned by the Falasco family who founded the estate in 1939, when Haraldo Santos Falasco started selling his wine in his hometown of Chacabuco from a large basket on the front of his bicycle!
Today 4th generation members of the family – led by Franco Falasco – continue to produce a range of high-quality wines led by their Uco Valley Malbecs.
A mix of hand and machine harvesting from different parcels, winemaking is overseen by Pablo Sanchez. Stainless steel fermentation is followed by aging in oak casks for 6 months – a mix of 60% American and 40% French.
Deep in colour with an elevated nose of black cherry and plums, this is replicated on the palate with further notes of dried fruits and a hint of chocolate and vanilla. No need to decant, ready to drink now, but can keep and enjoy over the next 2 years.
