2010 Now finished: MARSANNAY, Meo Camuzet Frère et Soeur. Burgundy

Bin:  445

Alcohol percentage:  12.5%

Area:

Marsannay is a village just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. It was reputed only for rosé for many years, only winning the right to sell red Pinot Noir under its own name in 1987. The wines tend to show the purity of Gevrey but with a little more ‘rusticity’.

Producer:

Jean Nicolas Méo runs one of Burgundy’s very best estates, based in Vosne-Romanée. Their style is modern, emphasizing ripeness, but without any excess. If this is rich for a Marsannay, it’s because of the (excellent) vintage as much as the winemaking.

Old Bridge rating:

From one of the greatest estates in Burgundy, this is serious Pinot Noir at a sensible price for th region. Not powerful or intense, but still bright, lively and charming.
