2013 NORHEIMER DELLCHEN AUSLESE, Gold Cap, Dönnhoff. Nahe (Half bottle)

Bin:  913

Alcohol percentage:  8%

Area:

The Nahe river may be less famous than the Rhine or Mosel, but its best wines are classically perfect Rieslings – an unmissable evocation of slatey minerality. Dellchen is a steep terraced vineyard in a rocky hollow with porphyry and slate soil.

Grape variety:

100% Riesling.

Producer:

Helmut Dönnhoff is one of the greatest winemakers in Germany (and therefore the world). He makes dry, off-dry and fully sweet wines which all combine real concentration with beguiling delicacy. In 2005 he was ‘Wine Personality of the Year’ in Robert Parker’s ‘The Wine Advocate’.

Old Bridge rating:

Clearly sweet, but also tingly, brilliantly fresh. Not easy to know the best occasion to drink it, but this is outstanding wine by any standards.
