2016 Now finished – HAMDANI JANDALI, Cremisan. Palestine

Bin:  118

Alcohol percentage:  12%

Area:

Cremisan is the creation of a Christian convent, supporting the local Palestinian villages near Bethlehem (which is in the ‘West Bank’ area, south of Jerusalem).
That is unusual enough in itself, but the wine is also one of the first attempts to revive indigenous grape varieties from the region. Most varieties used in Roman (and pre-Roman) times have been lost. But these are 2 of a few varieties that have been discovered, cultivated and now grown for wine production.

Grape variety:

50% Hamdani, 50% Jandali, fermented in stainless steel and bottled early to retain freshness.

Old Bridge rating:

Dry but gently ripe. A delicate, elegant, fascinating white wine with an extraordinary back story.
