2015 PINOT NOIR, Greywacke, Kevin Judd. Marlborough, NZ

Bin:  460

Alcohol percentage:  14%

Marlborough (top of the South Island) is famous for Sauvignon Blanc but also makes bright, lively Pinot Noir. This has an added layer of spice and complexity. Fruit comes from hillside vineyards in the Southern Marlborough Valleys

Grape variety:

Pinot Noir, aged in French oak (about half of it new oak)

Greywacke is the project of Kevin Judd, the ex-winemaker of Cloudy Bay. It has instantly attained cult status as soon as it has been release. The name comes from the indigenous Greywacke rock, typical of the Marlborough region

Old Bridge rating:

The cult status of Kevin Judd has put this in instant worldwide demand. It’s certainly sleek and succulent, impressive without being over-blown

Press review:

“I really like this beautifully packaged Pinot Noir, which shows beautiful aromatics of floral black cherry fruit. The palate is fresh and elegant with supple black cherry fruit, a smoothness of texture and a fine spicy finish. Real purity and precision”. 93/100 – Jamie Goode, wineanorak.com
