2020 PINOT NOIR ROSÉ, Villa Wolf. Rheinpfalz, Germany

Bin:  360

Alcohol percentage:  11.5%

Area:

The Pfalz is one of the warmest of the key German wine regions, capable of making rich, dry wines, sometimes more like Alsace than Mosel or the Rhone. It’s also capable of ripening Pinot Noir.

Grape variety:

100% Pinot Noir given a brief maceration on the skin before being fermented cool, as a white wine.

Producer:

Villa Wolf is the Pfalz winery owned by Ernie Loosen whose eponymous estate on the Mosel is one of the great German names. He started making wine here in 1996.

Old Bridge rating:

Very cleverly made rosé. Fresh enough for those who normally only drink dry styles, but fruity and soft enough for those who prefer something sweeter.
