2022 RIESLING, Peggy’s Hill. Eden Valley, South Australia

Bin:  108

Alcohol percentage:  12.5%

From the Henschke website: “This riesling takes its name from a local landmark, Peggy’s Hill, at the top of the range between the villages of Eden Valley and Keyneton. Produced from selected traditional Henschke Eden Valley growers, whose vines are up to 50 years old, growing in low-vigour ancient Cambrian soils at around 500m altitude. This Eden Valley riesling displays exceptional varietal and regional characteristics.”

The Henschke family settled in the Barossa in 1861 and now fifth-generation Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue uphold the family name and reputation, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively. All their vineyards are both organic and biodynamic.
Hill of Grace, first released in 1958 has made them word-famous, second only in the Aussie roll of honour to Grange Hermitage. The vines date back to the 1860s, although they are having to re-plant gradually as individual plants finally die out.

However the whole range is outstanding, offering authenticity and individuality at every level.

Old Bridge rating:

A bargain for the quality; thrillingly dry Riesling.
