2020 SANCERRE, Domaine David Sautereau. Loire Valley

Bin:  118

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Sancerre remains the most famous appellation in France for Sauvignon Blanc, and holds both its reputation and sales despite the rise of New Zealand and many other cool climate new world offerings.
The key here is the chalky soil (similar to Chablis), the cool but sunny climate and a heritage of doing a great job for many decades. The only problem is that prices from many producers is now way over the top (over £30 is common).
Sautereau’s 22 hectares of vineyard are in Crézancy, Bué and the village of Sancerre itself.

Grape variety:

100% Sauvignon Blanc, fermented cool in stainless steel and bottle after 6-8 months.

David is the ninth generation of his family to run the domaine!

Old Bridge rating:

Textbook example – stoney, ‘mineral’ backbone alongside the classic elderflower aromatics.

£21.85 per bottle in a mixed case of 6 bottles
£20.70 per bottle in a mixed case of 12 bottles
