2010 SANTENAY, Sous La Roche, Domaine Bachey-Legros

Bin:  270

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Santenay is a village neighbouring Chassagne, to the west. It is seriously under-rated, especially for its whites, which can have 90% of the quality at 50% of the price. Sous La Roche is a vineyard quite high up the gentle slopes above the village itself, close to the craggy outcrops at the top. The estate have just one acre in this site.

Grape variety:

100% Chardonnay, fermented and aged in oak (20% new) for 8 months

Producer:

Now run by the sixth generation of the Bachey family, this is an estate of just 18 hectares, scattered around Santenay Chassagne and Maranges.

Maturity potential:

2014-2018

Old Bridge rating:

This is a fine, delicately rich wine; creamy texture of perfectly judged oak maturation

Food match:

A versatile wine – fish, obviously, but also ripe French cheese, whether of the creamy or stinky variety!
