2011 SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE, 1er Cru Fouquerand, Hospices de Beaune (Magnum)

Bin:  886

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Savigny is a little village just above Beaune, producing light but elegant Pinot for drinking (generally) young. This particular wine is a blend of parcels in Les Talmettes and Gravains (both with 50 year old vines) and Serpentières. All are south facing, in some of Savigny’s best spots

Grape variety:

Pinot Noir aged in oak (one third new) for 15 months

Producer:

We bought a whole barrel of this from the famous ‘Hospices de Beaune’. The Hospices is a ancient charity which owns various parcels of prime vineyard land, whose wines are auctioned off each November

Maturity potential:

Now – 2026

Old Bridge rating:

We are really pleased with this purchase (buying at the Hospices can be pot luck). The wine was kept in barrel for a year by the very talented Agnes Paquet. It’s medium-bodied, gentle and extremely charming
