2019 THE BAROSSAN, Shiraz, Peter Lehmann. South Australia

Bin:  605

Alcohol percentage:  14.5%

Grape variety:

100% Shiraz matured for a year in both French and American oak hogsheads (50 litre barrels).

Producer:

Peter Lemann is one of the great names in Australian wine – famous for persevering with Barossa Shiraz when it was right out of fashion; and now still innovating ahead of the game.
This is a blend of 40 different parcels taken from around the Valley. Buying from small growers and blending to make the best possible result has always been the key to Peter Lehmann’s winemaking.
The winery is now owned by the Casella family who also own the famous/infamous Yellowtail brand. But do not underestimate them – they knew exactly what they were doing when they created that phenomenal international brand, and they are nurturing their more prestigious labels (like this and Morris of Rutherglen) with great care.

Old Bridge rating:

Delivers everything you could want from Barossa Shiraz – at a relatively sensible price. Generous would be key descriptor.
