2018 TINTO DE LA CASA, Riccitelli. Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina

Bin:  656

Alcohol percentage:  14%

This is a co-fermentation of 2 Malbec vineyards:
One in Las Compuertas, one of the 14 districts of Luján de Cuyo, itself a sub-region of Mendoza.
The other in Gualtallary, a high-altitude district within Tupungato in the northern reaches of Argentina’s Uco Valley, which again is in Mendoza – Argentina’s wine geography is really not easy to get your head round.

Grape variety:

Malbec, fermented (with wild yeast) and matured in small French oak vats (no new wood used – this is all about maximising the fruit character).

Mattias Riccitelli worked for various other wineries before setting up his own project in 2009. He is at the forefront of ‘modern’ Argentinian winemaking, producing wines of balance and freshness, with innovative labels and a great attitude in general.

Old Bridge rating:

A wild, savoury, exciting re-interpretation of Malbec – really not your usual soft, oaky style.
