2010 VIN SANTO, Capezzana. Tuscany, Italy (Half Bottle)

Bin:  959

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Capezzana is in the Carmignano region, 24km’s north west of Florence. The area is distinct from neighbouring Chianti, having a slightly warmer climate, especially in autumn, making for a slightly riper style than that of Chianti Classico

Grape variety:

90% Trebbiano; 10% San Colombano; dried on straw mats for three months and then aged for five years in small chestnut barrels (‘caratelli’). (260g/l residual sugar)

The gorgeous 100 hectare Capezzana estate has been owned by the Contini Bonacossi family for centuries. Barco Reale means ‘royal palace’ and refers to the property of the Medici Grand Dukes, who were (unsurprisingly) previous owners. This is one of the great examples of a very traditional wine style

Maturity potential:

Already mature but will hold for many years

Food match:

Famously good served simply with cantucci, local almond biscuits. But also a fine foil for nuts, dried fruit or a bakewell tart
