Valpolicella is east of Lake Garda, north of Verona. This is made from a mixture of west-facing slopes in the appellation
Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, air-dried for 3-4 months on bamboo racks, during which time they lose around 40% of their weight. Then fermented slowly (over a month) before three years maturation in large Slavonian oak barrels.
Teh house of Masi story was founded in 1772, and has been owned be the Boscaini family ever since. They are probably the best-known name for dried-grape (Appassimento) styles, pioneering many of the advances in both technology and style in the region.
They also operate Masi Tupungato in Argentina.
Classic example – intense, powerful and very complex. Best with cheese.
