2015 BARBERA D’ALBA, Gisep, Massolino. Piedmont
Bin: 507
Alcohol percentage: 14%
Massolino are a 23 hectare estate owned by the Massolino family since 1896. The Gisep Barbera comes from a blend of vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba area at around 1,000 feet in altitude, with vines grown on predominantly limestone soils.
The first release was from the 1998 harvest and the wine is named in honour of Guiseppe Massolino – Gisep being the local abbreviation for Guiseppe. He was the present generation’s grandfather and main founder of the estate.
Fermented in concrete tanks the wine was then aged in a mix of sizes of Slovenian oak casks for 18 months with a further 6 months in bottle before release.
This cuvée is, in effect, a riserva level from older Babera vines and at much lower yields. 2015 was also a fabulous vintage year for the variety.
Aged in The Old Bridge cellars since its release this is now in prime condition to enjoy.
Drink now and over the next 3 years, no need to decant.
