2006 NUITS-ST-GEORGES, 1er Cru Les Boudots, Louis Jadot. Burgundy

Bin:  800

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Vegan

Area:

Nuits-St-Georges is of course one of the most famous villages in Burgundy but, in my experience, the output is very variable. Some producers clearly trade on the area’s reputation.
Traditionally the style was robust – much more powerful and masculine than nearby Chambolle, Vosne or Gevrey. More modern growers are, however, showing that the best examples are as much about silky elegance as they are concentrated and serious.
There are no Grand Cru vineyards in NSG but Les Boudots is one of the very best Premier Crus – it is right next to Vosne- Romanée, at the northern end of the appellation.

Grape variety:

All Pinot Noir, of course, aged in barrel for 15 months (Jadot use around half new oak for Premier Crus)

Producer:

Louis Jadot is (by Burgundy standards) a very large producer, making wines from all the key appellations. Their best wines are invariably from their own vineyards – in this case from ‘Domaine Gagey’

Press review:

“Site-typical and Vosne-like in its smokiness and sweet spices, with star anise-, soy-, and vanilla-tinged purple plum and dark cherry fruit. The tannins here are refined to the point of silkiness. Resonantly rich and dynamic in finish, this harbors a depth of fruit and of smoky, saline carnal and mineral savor that becomes more evident as it takes on air.” – The Wine Advocate
